The Morton Salt Company

If you have driven on the Kennedy Expressway, you have seen the iconic Morton Salt Building.

We happened to be at 1357 N. Elston Ave, the site of the Morton Salt plant.

As you can see workers are taking down the roof of the building.

The complex was built in 1930, over 90 years ago. It was operational for 85 years.

The property was sold in 2015.

The current owners are planning to replace the roof in the next few months. Yes it will say; "When it rains it pours".

In fact, the owners are redeveloping the site to include offices, retail, food and entertainment space.

The Morton Salt Company has been a staple in Chicago for over a hundred years. They are still located in Chicago.

Pictured below is the Morton Salt factory that was completed in 1930.

Here is a picture of the factory taken last year.

Here is a rendering of the completed project.

It's good to see the developers are keeping the look of the property intact, while modernizing and re-purposing it. Hopefully it will be around for another hundred years.
