Billy Goat Tavern & Grill in Chicago

by Cecilia Kleiner 04/02/2023

We were in downtown Chicago, and stopped by The World Famous Billy Goat Tavern.

A bit tricky to find. It's located at 430 N. Michigan Ave. (on the lower level of Michigan Ave.) near the Wrigley building.

The Billy Goat has a lot of history in Chicago.

Opening in 1934 by Bill Sianis, it was originally called the Lincoln Tavern.

Sianis became known as “Billy Goat,” when a goat fell off a passing truck and wandered inside. Sianis adopted the goat, grew a goatee, acquired the nickname “Billy Goat,” and changed the name of the bar to the Billy Goat Tavern.

Today, there are 8 locations around the city, including locations at Midway Airport, O'Hare Airport, Navy Pier, and the Merchandise Mart.

When inside the original tavern, it has the look and feel from when they moved into this location almost 60 years ago.

The cook performed the famous saying for us,

Cheezborger! Cheezborger! Cheezborger! No Fries, Cheeps, No Pepsi, Coke!

Here are a few pictures to enjoy.
